چکیده
Mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) pose a serious threat to human health globally and the accurate identification of mosquito species is fundamental entomological diagnostics surveillance implementing effective vector control management. However, cryptic complexes, incomplete or damaged specimens, juvenile life stages complicates task. Molecular characterisation has shown potential identify accurately overcomes difficulties that morphological diagnosis face. Here, we assessed effectiveness multi-locus barcoding approach using cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI), internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS1) 2 (ITS2) regions New Zealand (n = 16) at highest taxonomic resolution, which can make more efficient. Our results show most could be distinctly separated from each other as well exotic either these (i.e., COI, ITS1 ITS2). The assessment discriminatory power ITS2 barcodes suggests better distinguish closely-related species. Two endemic Culex pervigilans complex (Cx. rotoruae Cx. pervigilans) were difficult COI regions. barcode detect greater genetic variation among individuals those two demonstrate resolve relationships them provide resolution complementary COI. Overall, this study provides reference DNA database for species, will aid in their higher corroborate traditional approaches perform discrimination complex. also preliminary diversity different Zealand, used baseline uncovering environmental geographical effect on genomic variations populations future.

Mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) in New Zealand: reverting to the traditional Aedes nomenclature
Mosquito-borne diseases are one of the main causes of death and morbidity among humans worldwide. Globalisation is facilitating the spread of mosquitoes to new areas, and vigilance at international borders combined with ongoing surveillance are paramount to prevent the spread of mosquito vectors. This must be underpinned by prompt identification of species, and international consensus on the ap...
متن کاملContainer aperture size and nutrient preferences of mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) in the Auckland region, New Zealand.
Ovitraps are a widely used tool for mosquito vector surveillance and population monitoring. In the Auckland region, New Zealand, the oviposition preferences of mosquitoes were assessed in artificial breeding containers in relation to container aperture size and water nutrient levels. Only three mosquito species were recorded: the endemic Culex pervigilans and the exotic Culex quinquefasciatus a...

Background & Objective : Dengue, a major public health problem in India is caused mainly by Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus. In Uttarakhand State (India), there has been a heavy increase in dengue cases in the year 2010 and thereafter in 2011-12, there was a decline. Keeping in view a change in climatic scenario i.e., heavy rainfall during June to September, we are expecting more and more case...

There is very little information about the mosquito fauna of Mahshahr district. The present study gives an overview of data on the species composition and distribution of mosquitoes in the Mahshahr district, Khuzestan province, southwest of Iran. In order to study the mosquito fauna, the samples were collected from May to November 2012 using dipping and total catch methods from seven villages (...
